Where to use a Catnic CN81B lintel
The CN81B is designed for openings in 200mm and 215mm external solid masonry walls. It provides support for masonry above an opening where the applied loads are within the lintel's published capacity.
Unlike a cavity-wall lintel, the CN81B is specified for solid-wall construction. Check the wall thickness and intended application before ordering.
Choosing the correct CN81B length
Catnic specifies nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. The required lintel length is therefore normally calculated by adding 300mm to the clear structural opening width.
For example, a 2400mm structural opening would normally require a 2700mm lintel to provide 150mm bearing at each end. The expected loads must also be checked against Catnic's specifications.
Installation considerations
Ensure the supporting masonry provides suitable bearing and support. Follow Catnic's current installation guidance and the project structural design, including any temporary support requirements during construction.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Catnic CN81B used for?
The CN81B is a standard duty steel lintel for 200–215mm external solid masonry walls. The opening and applied loads must be compatible with its published specifications.
What is the safe working load of a Catnic CN81B?
Catnic specifies a safe working load of 29kN across the CN81B range, based on uniformly distributed loading over the maximum span using nominal 150mm end bearings.
What lengths of Catnic CN81B are available?
We stock six lengths: 2550mm, 2700mm, 2850mm, 3000mm, 3300mm and 3600mm. Choose your required size from the options above.
Is the Catnic CN81B suitable for cavity walls?
Catnic specifies the CN81B for 200–215mm external solid masonry walls. For cavity-wall construction, a lintel designed for the appropriate cavity width and masonry leaves should be selected. Contact our team if you need assistance.
How much does a Catnic CN81B lintel weigh?
Catnic specifies a nominal weight of 15.1kg per metre. The six sizes we supply have nominal weights ranging from 38.43kg for the 2550mm lintel to 54.25kg for the 3600mm lintel.
How much end bearing does a CN81B require?
Catnic's published loading figures use nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. Make sure the selected lintel length and load capacity are suitable for your structural opening.
