Water Filled Barriers for Hire or Buy

Water Filled Barriers are temporary, reusable barriers made of flexible plastic and filled with water to provide safety and protection. Water filled plastic barriers serve various purposes depending on the needs of the project. With high-visibility, high water capacity, and a large footprint, water-filled barriers are a safe choice for providing protection for pedestrians as well as vehicles and other slow-moving objects.

Water Barrier Functions

One of the paramount functions of water-filled barriers is impact absorption. When filled with water, these road barriers act as heavy duty cushions, absorbing the impact of minor collisions from vehicles or pedestrians. This makes them ideal for protecting workers and pedestrians in construction zones or separating pedestrians from traffic.

Hugely versatily, water filled barriers are lightweight and easy to move around, making them adaptable to various site layouts and changing needs, such as evolving traffic barriers or barrier systems on construction sites. They can be interlocked to create straight lines, curves, or even closed enclosures.

Wade's Range of Water Filled Safety Barriers

Wade supplies a range of light and heavy duty water filled barriers designed for many situations and environments. Our Evo Barrier is a popular choice as it can be used with or without water as ballast, due to its large footprint. Its rugged, durable design means that it can take the punishment expected on construction sites and roadworks with ease. Additional to that, it's stackable, which allows for efficient storage.

Interlocking Barrier System

One of the principle requirements for barriers used in road works and pedestrian/traffic demarcation is linking - fittings that allow multiple barriers to be connected in a string. This prevents disruption caused by environmental or physical influences, and strengthens the barrier across its length. Water filled road barriers that are interlocked in this way are hugely reliable solutions for traffic and site safety.

Height & Attachment Options

The barriers offered by Wade range in height from 400mm up to 1000mm (1m) and can be used on their own, or supporting fencing, hoarding, or mesh panels. Many of the barriers support temporary fencing systems such as pedestrian and vehicle gate systems. When used alongside anti-tamper and anti-climb fence panels, or in the case of the Novus Barrier, a Mesh Extension, our water barriers can also provide reliable site security.

Barrier Construction

Water filled barriers are manufactured from UV-resistant polyethylene. This makes them lightweight and easy to manouver into position. It also allows these plastic barriers to be used for very temporary delineation at a moment's notice; dropping them in place to guide pedestrians around an obstacle quickly and simply.

Barrier Installation and Fittings

Along with strong interlocking systems, many of the barriers feature useful design additions that streamline usage:

Drainage holes on larger barriers such as the Evo

Forklift slots for quick and easy movement

Red and white colouring for clear delineation

Alternative Barrier Ballast Options

While water filled traffic barriers are designed to be filled with water, they can potentially be filled with other materials or liquids including sand. However, this is not recommended, as it is not what they are designed for, and it will make moving the barrier much more difficult.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are water safety barriers made from?

Our durable, and long-lasting barriers are made from UV-resistant polyethylene.

What Can Water Filled Barriers Be Used For?

These barriers can be used for traffic management, pedestrian safety, to direct foot or vehicle traffic, perimeter protection for live events and construction sites, as visible delineation cues, and more.

Can I Attach Fencing to the Barriers?

Our Slot Block water barrier set along with the Novus Barrier are designed to be used in conjuction with mesh fence panels.

How Much Water Should I Add?

Each barrier has a defined max water level visible. Each barrier has differing water capacities, so it's advised that you follow the guidelines provided. Providing you meet this guidance, if the water were to freeze, this would not damage the barrier as they would be ample space for expansion.
