The Birtley LA is a standard duty single leaf angle lintel for supporting 100mm external fair-faced masonry over openings. Its L-shaped profile supports the outer leaf independently, and its Supergalv finish is applied by hot-dip galvanising after fabrication.
Choose from the lengths shown in the product options, from 750mm to 3900mm. Select the lintel to suit the opening, required end bearings and design load; load capacity and section height vary with length.

- Application: standard duty lintel for a 100mm external masonry leaf.
- Profile: single leaf steel angle lintel.
- Material: structural-grade S275JR mild steel.
- Finish: 65µm Supergalv hot-dip galvanised coating, applied after fabrication.
- Product standard: BS EN 845-2:2013+A1:2016.
- End bearings: allow a minimum of 150mm at each end in accordance with Birtley’s general installation guidance, unless a different arrangement has been approved for the project.

SWL / UDL means the safe working load under uniformly distributed loading. These figures are total loads in kN, not loads per metre. The length bands describe the manufacturer’s range; use the product options above for the individual lengths available from Wade.

Birtley LA questions
What does the 100mm dimension refer to?
It refers to the external masonry leaf the LA is designed to support, rather than a cavity width.
Is the lintel length the same as the clear opening?
No. The overall lintel length includes the end bearings. For example, a 1500mm lintel with 150mm bearing at each end spans a 1200mm clear opening. This calculation does not establish whether its load capacity suits the project.
Does the Birtley LA need temporary propping?
Yes, for lengths over 1500mm. Keep the props in place until the masonry is fully loaded and cured, following Birtley’s installation requirements.

Wanted to change the front door but we had a cement arch in so we tuck the arch out did not want concrete lintel and the builder said a metal lintel it will blend into the brick work and look so much better he fitted the lintel easy and he was right it looks great great product and the right product for the job thank you all

Most competitive price I found. Delivery was earlier than initially stated but was informed of this the day before so no problem. Quality was good.
After finally getting it delivered (it somehow got lost at depot) Emma at Wade arranged a replacement smoothly. Then few days later the original turned up whilst I was out So now have 2 and waiting for it to be collected. Good customer service, they have sorted it very efficiently. Haven't had it fitted yet so no photos.

Sadly my experience has not been a saga. Having placed an online order I ultimately received confirmation of delivery date and time. Delivery time passed so checked the online order status. Showed as Scheduled but not 'on its way'. Rang Sales to be told their lorry had been involved in a minor accident and the delivery would not be made on that day. I received an apology for not having been informed. During the call it was promised 2 days later. 2 days later I had to contact them again. Once again apologies proffered the reason (excuse) was a 'miscommunication between Customer Service and the Transport Manager. This time I was assured that the delivery would most definitely be made 2 days later and that my delivery for the first drop off. Once again apologies for my having to contact them. On the day of the assured delivery I thought I'd contacted them just to check. I made no reference to the history of the order. After a wait whilst the person checked with the Transport Manager they came back and told me there had been a small accident with the delivery vehicle! Hello!? I, somewhat abruptly, explained the history and said the situation was unacceptable as I had builders onsite waiting for the item. Once again there had to be a conversation with the Transport Manager. An apologetic lady informed me that they could not make the delivery that day and it would be the following day. By way of compensation I was told I would receive repayment of the delivery charge. Not having a viable alternative (the item was not a stock item from most merchants) I said OK and prayed it would arrive the following day. 3hrs later the item was delivered. The delivery charge has not been credited back to me. I have questions about the validity of the information passed to the call takers from the Transport Manager. I have thoughts regarding the Transport Manager's customer service skills. Would I recommend Wade? What do you think?
