Truss clips for roof construction

Truss clips provide a purpose-designed connection between timber roof trusses and wall plates. They help locate and secure the truss while providing resistance to uplift, avoiding the need to skew nail directly through the trussed rafter into the wall plate.

Choosing the correct truss clip size

Truss clip size should be selected to suit the width of the trussed rafter being fixed. Wade currently stocks Expamet clips for 47mm and 50mm truss widths.

Why use truss clips instead of skew nailing?

Skew nailing a trussed rafter directly to a wall plate can make accurate positioning more difficult and risks damaging the timber or adjacent connector plates. A truss clip provides defined fixing positions on both the truss and wall plate, creating a more controlled connection.

The clip also contributes to resistance against uplift forces acting on the roof structure when it is installed using the specified fixings.

Truss clips and other roof connectors

Truss clips are specifically intended for the connection between trussed rafters and timber wall plates. Other roof and timber connections may require joist hangers, framing anchors, restraint straps or dedicated truss connectors depending on the construction detail.

Select the connector according to the joint being formed rather than substituting a similar-looking bracket, particularly where the connection forms part of an engineered roof structure.
