The Catnic CN71C Heavy Duty Solid Wall Lintel is designed for structural openings in 200–215mm external solid brick or block walls. Its steel box-section profile provides support for masonry loads and helps resist twisting during construction. Manufactured from galvanised steel with Catnic's black Duplex corrosion protection finish, the CN71C is available from us in eight lengths from 900mm to 1950mm, with safe working loads of 49kN or 44kN depending on length.
Catnic CN71C key features
Heavy duty loading
Safe working loads of 49kN or 44kN, depending on the selected length and Catnic's loading conditions.
200–215mm external solid walls
Designed for suitable solid brick or block wall construction, rather than conventional cavity walls.
Box-section profile
A rigid steel section designed to support masonry above structural openings and resist twisting during construction.
Duplex corrosion protection
Galvanised steel with Catnic's protective black polyester powder coating.
143mm nominal height
A consistent nominal section height across the CN71C range.

Where to use a Catnic CN71C lintel
The CN71C is designed for openings in 200mm and 215mm external solid masonry walls. It provides heavy duty support for masonry above windows, doors and other structural openings, provided the applied loads are within the selected lintel's published capacity.
Unlike a combined cavity-wall lintel, the CN71C is specified for solid-wall construction. Check your wall thickness and construction type before ordering.
Choosing the correct CN71C length
Catnic's published loading figures use nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. The required lintel length is therefore normally determined by adding 300mm to the clear structural opening width.
For example, a 1200mm structural opening would normally require a 1500mm lintel to provide 150mm bearing on each side. Also check that the lintel's safe working load is sufficient for the masonry and other structural loads.
Installation considerations
Ensure the supporting masonry provides suitable end bearings and can carry the loads transferred through the lintel. Follow Catnic's current installation guidance and the project structural design, including any temporary support requirements during construction.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Catnic CN71C used for?
The Catnic CN71C is a heavy duty steel lintel designed for 200–215mm external solid masonry walls. It supports masonry above structural openings where the calculated load falls within its published capacity.
What lengths of Catnic CN71C do you supply?
We offer eight sizes: 900mm, 1050mm, 1200mm, 1350mm, 1500mm, 1650mm, 1800mm and 1950mm. Choose your required length from the options above.
What is the safe working load of a Catnic CN71C?
Lengths from 900mm to 1500mm have a published safe working load of 49kN. Lengths from 1650mm to 1950mm have a published safe working load of 44kN, subject to Catnic's specified loading conditions.
Can the CN71C be used in a cavity wall?
Catnic specifies the CN71C for 200–215mm external solid masonry walls. For cavity-wall construction, choose a lintel designed for the relevant cavity and masonry leaf dimensions, or contact our team for technical advice.
How much end bearing does a CN71C require?
Catnic's published safe working loads use nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. Confirm the structural opening dimensions and required loading capacity before ordering.
What is the difference between CN71A and CN71C?
Both are intended for suitable 200–215mm external solid masonry walls. CN71C is the heavy duty model, with published safe working loads of 44–49kN, while CN71A is intended for lower loading requirements. Compare each model's length and loading tables before selecting a lintel.
