Nail plates for timber connections
Nail plates provide a straightforward method of connecting timber members using pre-punched steel plates and specified nails. They can be used in structural timberwork, framing and suitable truss connections where the plate and fixing arrangement have been selected for the required joint.

BAT-U-Nail is a hand-fixed timber connection system designed to allow timber structures and joints to be assembled on site or in the workshop. The pre-galvanised steel plates are available in different widths and lengths to suit different timber sections and joint configurations.

Choosing a nail plate size
The appropriate nail plate depends on the timber dimensions, joint arrangement and loads acting on the connection. A larger plate provides space for more fixings, but plate size alone does not determine the capacity of the completed joint.

Installing BAT-U-Nail plates
Expamet specifies BAT-U-Nail plates for installation on both sides of the timber connection. Correct positioning and fixing are important because the capacity of the completed joint depends on the plate, timber, direction of loading and the number and arrangement of fixings.
Nail plates for timber frames and trusses
Nail plates can form part of connections in timber frames, roof structures and suitable truss construction, but the required plate and fixing arrangement depends on the joint being designed. They should not be treated as interchangeable simply because two plates have similar dimensions.
For engineered or specified timber structures, use the nail plate dimensions, fixing pattern and installation method required by the structural design.
