Frame cramps for masonry restraint
Frame cramps provide a mechanical connection between masonry and adjoining structural elements, helping to restrain the masonry as part of the wall construction. They are available in different materials, projections and configurations to suit the fixing location, masonry build-up and project specification.
Wade's current range includes Expamet galvanised and stainless steel frame cramps, with multiple projections available for different wall constructions.
Choosing a frame cramp
The correct frame cramp depends on the construction being restrained, the fixing substrate, the distance between the fixing point and masonry, and the environmental exposure. Projection is particularly important, as the cramp needs to extend sufficiently into the masonry to achieve the required embedment within the mortar bed.
Galvanised frame cramps
Galvanised steel provides corrosion protection for suitable masonry applications. Wade's current range includes Expamet Safe Edge frame cramps in several projections.
Stainless steel frame cramps
Stainless steel provides greater corrosion resistance for applications where the construction, exposure conditions or project specification require it. Wade's current range includes Expamet Safe End frame cramps with fixing holes and a broad choice of projections.
Frame cramp projection and embedment
Projection describes how far the frame cramp extends from its fixing point towards and into the masonry construction. The required projection therefore depends on the wall build-up and fixing position, and should allow the specified embedment to be achieved within the mortar bed.
Current Expamet frame cramp options
Wade currently stocks Expamet Safe Edge and Safe End frame cramps, providing a choice of galvanised and stainless steel products and a range of projections.
| Range | Material | Current projections |
|---|---|---|
| Safe Edge | Galvanised steel | 100mm, 150mm, 200mm |
| Safe End with holes | Stainless steel | 100mm, 125mm, 150mm, 175mm, 200mm, 225mm, 250mm, 275mm |
If the frame cramp is specified as part of a masonry or structural design, check the required material, projection and fixing configuration before ordering.
