Where to use a Catnic CH90/100 lintel
The Catnic CH90/100 is intended for structural openings in heavy duty cavity wall construction. Typical applications include masonry loads, distributed timber floor and roof loads, attic trusses and other specified structural loading arrangements, subject to the selected lintel's rated capacity.
The open-back profile allows masonry to be built continuously on both leaves and can accommodate fair-faced inner leaf masonry.
Choosing the correct lintel length
Catnic's published loading figures use nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. A 1200mm structural opening would therefore normally require a 1500mm lintel, allowing 150mm bearing on each side. The required safe working load must also be checked.
Installation and concrete floor support
Both masonry leaves should be raised together, with a course of blockwork in place before installing floor or roof components, as specified by Catnic.
When using the CH90/100 to support concrete floors, Catnic requires blockwork to be built tightly against the inner vertical face of the lintel. A mortar joint at the top of the blockwork provides even bearing for floor units across the inner flange.

Frequently asked questions
What cavity width is the Catnic CH90/100 designed for?
The CH90/100 is designed for 90–105mm cavities, with a 100–115mm inner leaf and 100–102mm outer leaf.
What lengths does Catnic manufacture for the CH90/100?
Catnic manufactures the CH90/100 in 150mm increments from 900mm to 2400mm. Check Wade's available product options to select the required length.
What safe working load can the Catnic CH90/100 support?
The safe working load is 32kN for lengths from 900mm to 1800mm, 48kN for 1950mm and 2100mm, and 45kN for 2250mm and 2400mm, subject to Catnic's published loading conditions.
Does the Catnic CH90/100 have a built-in DPC?
Yes. The CH90/100 incorporates a built-in damp-proof course. Additional DPC may be required in some installation or exposure conditions.
Can the CH90/100 support concrete floors?
Yes, subject to Catnic's specified installation and loading requirements. Blockwork must be built tightly against the inner vertical face, with a mortar joint at its top to distribute floor-unit loading evenly over the lintel's inner flange.
What if I need a cavity lintel longer than 2400mm?
The Catnic CX90/100 Extra Heavy Duty Lintel is an alternative available in longer lengths. Check its cavity dimensions and length-dependent safe working loads before selecting it.
