Expamet stainless steel brick reinforcement mesh

Expamet EXMETS is stainless steel expanded mesh reinforcement designed to help control cracking in brick and block masonry. The mesh is laid within horizontal mortar bed joints, particularly around areas of higher stress such as window and door openings.

Wade supplies Expamet stainless steel Exmet coils in 20m lengths, with 65mm and 115mm widths available to suit different masonry constructions.

What is brick reinforcement mesh used for?

Brick reinforcement mesh is used within masonry bed joints to provide additional crack control. Stress concentrations can occur around openings such as windows and doors, where changes in the masonry can make cracking more likely.

Expamet EXMETS uses a continuous expanded metal construction without joints, interweaving or welds. It is bedded into fresh mortar as the wall is built, allowing reinforcement to be introduced along the required sections of masonry.

Installing Exmet brick reinforcement mesh

The mesh should be fully bedded and covered in fresh mortar before the next masonry course is laid. Expamet specifies a 75mm overlap where coil ends meet and installation at maximum 225mm vertical centres, with reinforcement projecting 600mm beyond jambs where it is being used around openings.

Always follow the project specification where a particular reinforcement arrangement, width or installation pattern has been specified.

Choosing the right mesh width

The mesh width should suit the masonry construction while allowing it to remain properly embedded within the mortar joint. Wade currently supplies 65mm and 115mm stainless steel Exmet coils.

If you are unsure which width is suitable for your wall construction, contact the Wade team before ordering.
