The Catnic CX150/100 Extra Heavy Duty 150mm Cavity Lintel is designed for high-load masonry cavity wall construction with a 150–165mm cavity, a 100–115mm inner leaf and a 100–102mm outer leaf. Its open-back steel profile allows both masonry leaves to be built up continuously, while integral insulation, a built-in DPC and plaster key provide additional construction benefits. We supply 19 lengths from 900mm to 4200mm, with safe working loads from 32kN to 60kN depending on length.

Catnic CX150/100 key features

Where to use a Catnic CX150/100 cavity lintel

The CX150/100 is intended for extra heavy duty masonry cavity wall construction with a 150–165mm cavity. It is designed for specified masonry, timber floor and roof loads, with applications including suitable concrete floor, roof and truss loading arrangements where the structural design and manufacturer specifications permit.

The open-back profile allows masonry to be built up continuously on both leaves and is suitable for fair-faced inner leaf masonry.

Choosing the correct lintel length

Catnic's published loading figures use nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. As a general starting point, the required lintel length is calculated by adding 300mm to the clear structural opening width.

For example, a 2100mm structural opening would normally require a 2400mm lintel, allowing 150mm bearing at each end. The selected size must also provide adequate safe working load for the structure above.

Installation and support requirements

Both masonry leaves should be raised together, and the supporting wall construction must provide suitable end bearings. Follow Catnic's installation requirements for temporary support, loading and lateral restraint during construction.

When using Catnic CH and CX open-back lintels with concrete floors, the blockwork must be built tightly against the inner vertical face. Catnic also requires a mortar joint at the top of the blockwork to distribute the floor-unit load evenly over the lintel's inner flange.

For standard duty 150–165mm cavity wall construction, compare our Catnic CG150/100 Standard Duty Cavity Lintel.

For extra heavy duty applications with a narrower 90–105mm cavity, we also supply the Catnic CX90/100 Extra Heavy Duty Cavity Lintel.

Frequently asked questions

What cavity width is the Catnic CX150/100 designed for?

The CX150/100 is designed for 150–165mm cavities, with a 100–115mm inner masonry leaf and a 100–102mm outer leaf.

What lengths of Catnic CX150/100 do you supply?

We offer 19 lengths from 900mm to 4200mm. Choose the size required from the options above, and check its safe working load before ordering.

What is the safe working load of a CX150/100 lintel?

The safe working load depends on length. Catnic specifies 60kN up to 2700mm, 55kN at 2850–3000mm, 50kN at 3300–3900mm and 32kN at 4200mm. These ratings are subject to the manufacturer's loading conditions.

Does the CX150/100 have a built-in DPC?

Yes. The CX150/100 incorporates a built-in damp-proof course. Additional DPC may be required in some situations, depending on installation and exposure conditions.

Does the CX150/100 have integral insulation and a plaster key?

Yes. Catnic supplies the CX150/100 with integral insulation and a plaster key to assist finishing.

Can the CX150/100 support concrete floors?

Yes, where Catnic's specified loading and installation conditions are satisfied. For concrete floor applications, blockwork must be tight against the lintel's inner vertical face, with a mortar joint above the blockwork to distribute floor-unit loading evenly over the inner flange.

How much end bearing does the CX150/100 require?

Catnic's published safe working loads are based on nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. Check the selected length and structural loading before installation.
