The Catnic Wall Starter Kit 2.4m is a stainless steel wall starter system for tying new brickwork or blockwork into an existing masonry wall. The Catnic Stronghold kit includes starter strips, adjustable wall ties and fixings for new internal or external wall construction.

Where is a wall starter kit used?

A wall starter kit is used when a new masonry wall needs to connect to existing brickwork or blockwork. The starter strip is fixed to the existing wall, and the adjustable ties are built into the mortar joints of the new wall.

How many wall starter kits do you need?

Choose a pack quantity based on the number of wall junctions and the project requirements. The single pack contains two 1.2m strips, giving a 2.4m starter system, with ties and fixings included.

For an external cavity wall, two starter systems are normally required—one for each leaf. Confirm the wall type, thickness and project specification before ordering, particularly where building control, warranty-provider or design requirements apply.

Installing a Catnic wall starter kit

Position the starter strip plumb against the existing wall and align it with the centre line of the new wall. The product instructions advise using a 10mm masonry drill bit and positioning fixings to avoid mortar joints wherever possible.

Fix the lower strip first without overtightening, then mark and fit the upper strip. Slot the adjustable ties into the strip and build them into full mortar beds, ensuring each tie is fully covered by mortar.

For external cavity wall construction, use a starter system for each leaf where required and position the lower end above the damp-proof course. Weather-seal the junction between the new and existing outer leaf, and check the project specification for any additional damp-proofing requirements.
