At Wade, we have all the kit you require when you need to support an existing structure. Our prop-mate brickwork wall supports can handle up to 340 Kg, ideal for lintel repair, or extension works.

The prop mate is designed to sit on top of a 150 mm acrow prop top plate and support all size double-skin brickwork cavity walls. Zinc plated for longer life and durability; these strong boys will remain an essential bit of kit for years to come.

When using prop mates, make sure that you are using the right grade of acrow prop that matches the task in hand. The widest spread for using props to support masonry is 900 mm, however, if you are replacing a lintel, or an opening is less that 900 mm, it is always better to use two props if there is the space to do so.

One of the main benefits of using prop mates as brick braces is that it leaves one side of the wall opening free for access. The usual method is to fit the support on the external part of the works where there is more likely to be a solid footing for the acrow props.

When installing lintels, prop mates can support the full depth of a steel beam or cavity lintel, and prevent twisting, or other potential distortion while masonry work is curing above. Use a level to ensure no deviation to the horizontal.

One key thing to remember when propping an existing wall is that the mortar lines need to line up on both the inner and outer leaf. When the inner leaf is blockwork and the outer leaf is brickwork, the mortar should line up every three brick courses.

To make sure the acrow prop is tightened up properly, hand wind it, then give it a single tap with a hammer. Don’t overtighten it as the prop mates could put too much pressure on existing brickwork and cause damage that might be costly to repair.

Prop mates remove the need for pinning a structure, where a pair of acrow props, on both sides of a wall, support overhead masonry. Used properly, they can make opening up a new doorway, window, or replacing a lintel, a fast, safe, and much simpler task.
