The Catnic CTF5 Standard Duty Timber Frame Lintel is designed to support external masonry above openings in timber-frame construction with a 50–65mm cavity and a 100–102mm outer masonry leaf. Its steel profile accommodates differential vertical movement between the timber frame and the masonry, while Catnic's Duplex corrosion protection and built-in DPC help manage moisture. We offer 18 lengths from 750mm to 4800mm, with safe working loads ranging from 5kN to 10kN depending on length.

Where to use a Catnic CTF5 timber frame lintel

The CTF5 is designed for openings in timber-frame construction where the external brick or block leaf requires support independently of the timber structure. Its profile accommodates differential vertical movement between the timber frame and the masonry outer leaf.

The 50–65mm cavity specification is important. For larger cavity widths, a different Catnic timber-frame lintel may be required.

Choosing the correct CTF5 length

Catnic's published loading figures use nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. As a general starting point, allow 300mm in addition to the clear structural opening width.

For example, a 1200mm opening would normally require a 1500mm lintel to allow 150mm bearing at each end. Always confirm the loading requirements before ordering.

Installation and restraint requirements

Catnic specifies that CTF timber-frame lintels must be suitably propped and secured with restraint clips and a timber batten during construction. The timber batten is not supplied with the lintel.

Restraint clips must be securely fixed to the timber frame in accordance with Catnic's instructions. The installation must allow for the differential movement for which the lintel has been designed.

If your project uses a different cavity width or traditional masonry cavity-wall construction, explore our cavity lintel range or Catnic lintels.

Check that the chosen lintel is designed for your wall construction. Timber-frame and conventional masonry cavity-wall lintels are not automatically interchangeable.
