How does the TH90/100 reduce thermal bridging?
Conventional steel cavity lintels can provide a conductive path between the inner and outer masonry leaves. The Catnic TH90/100 uses a complete thermal break between its steel sections, together with integral insulation, to reduce this heat transfer at the opening.
Catnic reports independently verified Psi values of 0.02–0.05 W/mK for its thermally broken lintel range. The junction performance achieved in a particular building depends on the wall construction, insulation arrangement and installation details.
The TH90/100 also incorporates an integral plaster key for internal finishing.
Where to use the Catnic TH90/100
This heavy duty thermally broken lintel is suitable for specified masonry, timber floor and roof loading applications in 90–105mm cavity-wall construction. Its open-back profile allows masonry to be built on both leaves and is suitable for fair-faced inner leaf masonry.
Choosing the correct length
Catnic's published safe working loads assume nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. As a general starting point, allow 300mm beyond the clear structural opening to provide these bearings.
For example, a 1200mm clear structural opening would normally require a 1500mm lintel, providing 150mm bearing at each end. Check that the chosen length also meets the required load capacity.
Installation and damp-proofing requirements
Install the TH90/100 in accordance with Catnic's current instructions, ensuring suitable end bearings, temporary support where required, and correct masonry restraint and load transfer.
When TH and TX open-back lintels support concrete floors, Catnic requires the blockwork to be built tightly against the lintel's inner vertical face, with a mortar joint at the top of the blockwork to distribute floor-unit loads evenly over the inner flange.
The published safe working loads do not automatically establish suitability for every concentrated loading, floor or roof arrangement. Follow the project structural design and manufacturer guidance.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Catnic TH90/100?
The TH90/100 is a heavy duty thermally broken steel cavity lintel for masonry walls with a 90–105mm cavity. It provides a complete thermal break between the inner and outer steel sections.
What cavity width is the TH90/100 designed for?
It is designed for a 90–105mm cavity, with a 100–115mm inner masonry leaf and a 100–102mm outer leaf.
What lengths do you supply?
We supply five TH90/100 lengths: 1350mm, 1500mm, 1650mm, 2100mm and 2250mm.
What is the safe working load of a TH90/100?
Our 1350mm, 1500mm and 1650mm lengths have a published SWL of 32kN. The 2100mm lintel is rated at 48kN and the 2250mm lintel at 45kN, subject to Catnic's loading conditions.
Does the TH90/100 need a separate DPC?
Yes. Catnic specifies a separate DPC tray for the TH90/100. This is an important difference from some conventional Catnic cavity lintels that incorporate their own DPC.
What is the difference between the TH90/100 and TS90/100?
Both are thermally broken lintels for 90–105mm masonry cavities. The TH90/100 is the heavy duty model, whereas the TS90/100 is intended for standard duty loading applications. Select according to the calculated loads and Catnic's published data.
Can the TH90/100 support concrete floors?
Catnic provides specific installation instructions for TH and TX open-back lintels used with concrete floors. The blockwork must be tight against the inner vertical face, with a mortar joint at the top to spread floor-unit loads evenly over the inner flange. Confirm the loading arrangement with the structural design.
