The Catnic CTF7 Standard Duty 70mm Timber Frame Lintel is designed to support the external masonry leaf above openings in timber-frame construction with a 70–85mm cavity and a 100–102mm outer brick or block leaf. Its steel profile allows differential vertical movement between the timber frame and the masonry, while its built-in DPC and Duplex corrosion protection help manage moisture. We supply 20 lengths from 900mm to 4800mm, with safe working loads of 5kN, 7kN, 9kN or 10kN depending on length.

Where to use a Catnic CTF7 timber frame lintel
The CTF7 is designed for openings in timber-frame construction where a 100–102mm external brick or block leaf requires support across a 70–85mm cavity. Its profile accommodates differential vertical movement between the timber frame and the masonry facing.
Unlike a combined masonry cavity-wall lintel, the CTF7 supports the outer masonry leaf independently of the structural timber frame. Confirm the wall construction and cavity width before ordering.
Choosing the correct CTF7 length
Catnic's published loading figures use nominal 150mm end bearings at each end. As a general starting point, add 300mm to the clear structural opening width to allow for these bearings.
For example, a 1200mm structural opening would normally require a 1500mm lintel, allowing 150mm bearing on either side. The selected lintel must also provide sufficient safe working load for the masonry above.
Installation, propping and restraint clips
CTF7 timber-frame lintels must be suitably propped during construction and secured to the timber frame using Catnic's supplied restraint clips and a timber batten. The timber batten is not supplied with the lintel.
The restraint arrangement helps prevent the lintel twisting during construction while allowing the differential movement required between the timber frame and masonry outer leaf. Follow Catnic's installation guidance for clip positioning and fixing.

Yes. The lintel must be suitably propped during construction. Temporary props can be removed once the mortar has cured and the wall ties have become effective, in accordance with Catnic's guidance.
Does the CTF7 have a built-in DPC?
Yes. The CTF7 incorporates a built-in damp-proof course. Additional damp-proofing may be required in some installation or exposure conditions.
Can the CTF7 support timber floor or roof loads?
The CTF7 is designed to support the external masonry leaf. Loads from the timber-frame superstructure, including structural floor and roof loads, must be supported and designed separately.
